Dombay welcomes the new resort standard and the cold weather

In 2029, the Dombay ski resort in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic will not only have a new hotel, but also become a point of attraction for discerning tourists. The construction company "Semya" will build a hotel complex under the management of the international operator Dusit International with the support of the Bank DOM.RF. This agreement, signed in Bangkok, sets new standards for service in the North Caucasus. However, behind the facade of luxury and the expectation of a high level of hospitality lies a complex engineering infrastructure, where industrial refrigeration equipment plays a critical role.

The construction of a premium facility of this scale in a mountainous area, with a well-developed restaurant service and a culinary school, inevitably creates a new demand in the industrial refrigeration market. Companies specializing in the design and supply of refrigeration systems have the opportunity to implement comprehensive solutions. They will be responsible for equipping the hotel with equipment that meets four key requirements: reliability in high-altitude conditions and potential voltage fluctuations, energy efficiency, noise minimization, and compliance with international Dusit standards.

What specific industrial refrigeration equipment will be used in this project, and what functions will it perform? The list includes several key categories.

  • The first is the central refrigeration system for kitchens and restaurants. In a premium hotel with its own culinary school, the volume of food storage and processing will be significant. This will require chillers (water cooling machines) with a capacity of 200 to 500 kW. Their function is to supply cooled water to the fan coils of quick-freezing chambers, refrigerated cabinets, and ice generators. Key features include the use of ozone-friendly refrigerants (R-410A or R-134a) and the ability to operate stably at low outdoor temperatures (down to -15°C), which is crucial for a high-altitude resort.
  • The second unit is a prefabricated refrigeration chamber for long-term storage. To ensure the smooth operation of restaurants serving guests and staff, you will need not individual cabinets, but full-fledged chambers with an area of 20 to 100 square meters. These chambers are divided into two types: low-temperature chambers (for frozen products, with temperatures ranging from -18 to -22°C) and medium-temperature chambers (for vegetables, fruits, and dairy products, with temperatures ranging from 0 to +4°C). Specifications: the thickness of the sandwich panels is at least 100 mm, with airtight doors and an automatic defrosting system. These chambers will be used to store food for both a la carte restaurants and banquets, as well as for culinary school classrooms.
  • Third - ice generators. In a premium hotel, ice is used not only for drinks in bars, but also for cooling products on distribution lines, as well as in cooking workshops. Both cube ice generators (with a capacity of 50 to 200 kg per day) and flake ice generators (up to 500 kg per day) are required for professional kitchens. Specifications: stainless steel body, air or water cooling of the condenser.
  • Fourth - freon monoblocks and split systems for storage facilities. Not all hotel areas need to be connected to a central chiller. For small warehouses, bars on the floors and service rooms, autonomous monoblocks are used. Their function is to maintain the set temperature in a limited space. Specifications: refrigerant R-404A, operating temperature range from -5 to +8 °C (for cooling) or from -18 to -22 °C (for freezers). The power varies from 1.5 to 5 kW, depending on the size of the room.
  • Fifth - temperature accounting and control systems. In a premium facility managed by an international operator, an automated monitoring system is a mandatory requirement. These are controllers, temperature and humidity sensors connected to a single dispatcher. Their function is to monitor the storage conditions of products 24/7, record violations, and generate reports for the quality service. Features: measurement accuracy of ±0.3 °C, protection against power outages, and remote access.
  • How will this affect the industrial refrigeration market? For companies that supply and install refrigeration equipment, this project means several important changes.

First, the requirements for contractors' qualifications have been tightened. The international operator Dusit International sets high standards for service, which automatically requires suppliers to have certificates and experience working on high-category projects. Companies that specialize in standard household solutions will not be able to participate in such tenders. Those who offer comprehensive engineering solutions with warranty and post-warranty service will be the winners.

Secondly, the project stimulates the introduction of energy-efficient technologies. In a mountain resort, where the cost of electricity and logistics is higher than on the plains, the customer is interested in low-energy equipment. This means that manufacturers of chillers and monoblocks will be more active in offering models with inverter compressors, which can save up to 30% of electricity compared to traditional alternatives.

Thirdly, the construction of such a complex in Dombay will set a precedent for other developers in the region. If the pilot project is successful, there may be a steady demand for premium industrial refrigeration equipment in the North Caucasus. Companies that establish themselves at the Dusit International facility will gain a competitive advantage for years to come.

Thus, the construction of a hotel complex in Dombay under the management of Dusit International is an event that goes far beyond the tourism industry. For the industrial refrigeration market, it is a signal to modernize, improve quality standards, and adopt new technologies. The equipment that will be installed in this hotel will serve as a benchmark for all future projects in Russia's mountainous cluster.

Copeland launches CO₂ compressor with DVI technology

In December 2025, Copeland—a global leader in compressor manufacturing—unveiled a new development: a CO₂ scroll compressor featuring Dynamic Vapor Injection (DVI) technology. This milestone marked a significant step in the evolution of industrial refrigeration equipment, as the combination of the natural refrigerant CO₂ and an advanced vapor injection system opens up new possibilities for enhancing energy efficiency, reducing operating costs, and meeting environmental regulations.
